Relationships, 1+1=3 or 1+1=0

Relationships and bringing out the best of yourself and others, synergise the qualities of both. It sounds so lovely and in real life it happens so many times that relationships are detrimental and they "suck" the energy and joy out of us. At the other hand they can be a generating source of intelligence, happiness and rejuvenation. Is there a way to create a collective connection that creates instead of takes?
